Specialists from Anglo American, Minsur, Volcan, Chinalco, Nexa, CDPR, Antapaccay, and Las Bambas will lead the third International Congress on Water and Tailings.

With the aim of continuing to promote high-level technical spaces for the mining industry, InterMet will organize the third edition of the International Congress on Water and Tailings 2026, a specialized meeting that will put one of the most sensitive and strategic issues for the sector on the agenda: water and tailings management.

The event will take place on June 11th and 12th at the Hotel José Antonio Deluxe, and is projected as one of the region's specialized gatherings focused on aspects of operation, engineering, innovation, reuse or circulation, water treatment, and best practices, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences among professionals linked to this key area of mining.

The 2026 edition will be presided over by the Eng. Manuel Rodríguez Mariátegui, general manager of Cerro de Pasco Resources, who will lead the development of the congress along with an advisory committee composed of leading professionals from mining companies, technical organizations, and sector specialists.

Among the members of the advisory committee are Eng. Iván Babastre, Superintendent of Water Resources of Anglo American Quellaveco; Eng. Richard Mera, head of Electromechanical Tailings Minsur; Eng. Fernando Alarcón, director of the Peruvian Technical Committee on Tailings and Mining Waste CT-200; Giovanni Anfonssi, manager of Mining Supervision of Osinergmin; Ing. Jorge Rosales, Corporate Manager of Tailings Management Volcan Mining Company; Ing. Christian Davila, Plant Manager of Minsur; Ing. Alfonso Muñoz, Production Director of Chinalco Peru Mining; and Ing. Carlos Sánchez Romero, Superintendent of Water Resources of Minsur.

Eng. Cristian Recabarren, Tailings and Water Superintendent (RTFE), also joins this group. Chinalco Peru Mining; Eng. Edgar Quiroz, independent ITRB consultant in water and tailings; Eng. Alfonso Palacio Castilla, Senior Project Manager of Cerro de Pasco Resources; Jeny Panez, Tailings Manager Nexa Resources; Alfio Miraval, Water Resources and Tailing Manager of Poverty; Rafaela Delgado, General Manager of ARDEL; and Jorge Zafra, Principal Hydrologist of Las Bambas Mine.

The presence of this group of specialists reaffirms the growing importance of this congress within the mining technical calendar, especially in a context where efficient water and tailings management is crucial for operational continuity, environmental performance, and project sustainability.

The event's growth is also reflected in its previous results. In its 2025 edition, the International Congress on Water and Tailings brought together more than 350 participants, consolidating its positioning as a platform for technical and professional exchange for the sector.

As part of the joint work linked to the event, the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), sponsor of the Congress's Coffee Break, will raffle a high-level virtual live course among participants, thus incorporating an additional component of training and professional development that will contribute to the technical value of this edition.

Likewise, participants registered for the congress will have access to a free in-person pre-course, scheduled for June 10th, as part of the complementary activities for this edition.
