Ingemmet organizes seminar on lithium and graphite as key minerals for the energy transition

The Geological, Mining, and Metallurgical Institute (Ingemmet) held the seminar “Strategic Minerals for the Energy Transition. Lithium and Graphite (Graphene),” a space for technical and academic analysis aimed at discussing the role of these resources in the context of global energy change and their potential in Peru.

The event was held at the Gran Hotel Bolívar, which provided support with its facilities, and brought together specialists from the public, academic, and scientific research sectors, as well as representatives from the mining and energy sectors. The day was inaugurated with the participation of the Vice Minister of Mines, Ing. Carlos Talavera, who highlighted the importance of these minerals for scientific and technological advancement.

The program included presentations by Dr. Humberto Chirif Rivera, a professor at the National University of Engineering, who addressed the role of minerals in the energy transition; and by geologist Enrique Gonzales, who presented an overview of lithium in southern Peru.

For his part, Jhonny Torre, a researcher from the Directorate of Mineral and Energy Resources of Ingemmet, analyzed the association of industrial minerals with strategic and critical minerals in the national territory. And, finally, Dr. Ana Champi, from ABC University in Sao Paulo, Brazil, presented on the global trend of technological innovation connecting graphite mining with graphene development.

With this seminar, Ingemmet provided essential technical and scientific information for understanding the potential of lithium and graphite in the country, promoting the exchange of knowledge between the state, academia, and sector specialists, in a context marked by the challenges of the energy transition and technological innovation.
