Anglo American delivers 500 solar luminaires for public lighting in Chen Chen and San Antonio
Streets, passages, parks, bus stops, and public places in Moquegua that lacked public lighting will be illuminated with 500 solar luminaries delivered by Anglo American, for the benefit of approximately one thousand inhabitants of the Chen Chen Population Center and the San Antonio district. These lights are being installed progressively and feature modern technology with sensors that allow for automatic on/off based on the light conditions of each area.
Alejandro Justiniano, Social Performance and Development Manager of Anglo American, highlighted that with public lighting, people's quality of life will improve as they will be able to use public spaces at night, increasing nighttime transit and improving citizen safety.
“Furthermore, we are contributing to environmental sustainability because we are using clean energy. The light fixtures run on solar panels that recharge during the day to operate at night,” he specified.
As of today, 40 streetlights have already been installed in Chen Chen, in the housing associations 24 de Junio and Vallecito. These works are being carried out in coordination with the Town Center Municipality of the area, based on an agreement to improve public lighting. They consist of installing concrete bases where the metal poles are anchored, along with their respective solar panels and public lighting lamps. A few weeks ago, the first streetlights were switched on, with the participation of the mayor, Jackeline Ninaraqui.
In the case of San Antonio, Anglo American The light fixtures were donated, and the installation is being carried out by the District Municipality in the urban area adjacent to the Binational Highway up to the valley, primarily benefiting farmers. It is estimated that the 500 light fixtures will be ready and operational in the first half of July.
