Gold Fields strengthens its commitment to exploration in Peru with the Nueva Esperanza project
The miner Gold Fields He reaffirmed his interest in strengthening his presence in Peru through the advancement of the project New Hope, an exploration initiative located in the Cajamarca region that is in an early stage of geological evaluation and aims to identify economic copper and gold mineralization.
During their participation in the Mining Engineering Week, organized by the Mining Chapter of the College of Engineers of Peru, Paul Gómez, general manager of the Cerro Corona mine and technical vice president of Gold Fields Americas, explained that Nueva Esperanza is part of the company's exploration strategy, both in greenfield and brownfield projects, aimed at generating new mining development opportunities in the country.
According to the executive, the project already has preliminary geological information which, while not yet allowing definitive conclusions, shows indications of surface mineral potential. In that regard, he specified that it will be necessary to proceed with drilling work and additional studies to evaluate the continuity and volume of the resource.
One of the highlights of Nueva Esperanza is its Geological compatibility with Cerro Corona, an operation that Gold Fields is currently developing in Cajamarca. Both areas present characteristics typical of copper and gold porphyry systems, which opens up the possibility of leveraging technical synergies, operational knowledge, and existing infrastructure in the region.
From a regulatory standpoint, the project has the Environmental Technical Data Sheet (ETDS) approved, which enables the company to carry out more detailed exploration activities. Within this framework, representatives from Gold Fields recently held meetings with sector authorities, in which project progress and the next steps for its development were reviewed.
The company highlighted that Nueva Esperanza is projected as a relevant asset for Gold Fields' future in Cajamarca, complementing the current Cerro Corona operation, whose useful life extends until 2030. This long-term approach seeks to ensure the continuity of formal mining, promote new investments, and maintain a solid relationship with the region.
Finally, the company pointed out that the responsible advancement of exploration projects is key to sustaining the development of the mining sector and generating economic opportunities in the areas where it operates.
