The Camisea Consortium announced today that in the coming months it will launch an investment plan to modernize and expand the Rural Electrification System of Bajo Urubamba (SER-BU), an initiative that will benefit 7,000 residents of 12 native communities in the Megantoni district, in the Cusco province of La Convención. The project will be developed in conjunction with the district municipality.

The initiative will make it possible to double electricity generation capacity, from 500 KW to 1,000 KW. To achieve this, infrastructure and equipment will be upgraded at the Malvinas Plant, which supplies energy generated from Camisea natural gas.

The company reported that it will coordinate with the Municipality of Megantoni the necessary technical measures to expand this electricity supply, which has been provided free of charge to the communities of Bajo Urubamba for more than 10 years.

With the modernization of SER-BU, the beneficiary communities will have greater capacity and better quality of electrical service, strengthening the conditions for the development of educational activities, healthcare at health facilities, the operation of community services, and the promotion of local economic activities.
