Upland Peru supports Urgent Decree No. 003-2026 which guarantees Petroperu's energy security and operational continuity
The CEO and board of directors of Upland Peru, the company operating Block 8 in the Northern Jungle and a supplier of oil for the Iquitos Refinery, expressed their support for the recently approved Urgent Decree No. 003-2026, highlighting the economic and financial measures proposed to strengthen and reorganize Petroperú's assets in a positive light.
Jorge Rivera, general manager of Upland Oil & Gas, stated, “It is a necessary and timely measure to strengthen Petroperú and mitigate the risk of affecting energy security in the country, and to avoid the consequent shortage of fuel in the Amazon, where the state-owned company plays a very important social role as the main supplier.”.
The Unilateral Decree No. 003-2026 establish urgent and extraordinary measures in economic and financial matters to guarantee the continuity of hydrocarbon production and supply, as well as to strengthen the security of the national energy system. Likewise, it authorizes Petroperú to participate in the creation of a special purpose vehicle to channel resources aimed at ensuring its operational continuity.
The regulation also contemplates PROINVERSIÓN's participation in the structuring and implementation of this financial mechanism, as well as the authorization for the Ministry of Energy and Mines to assume contingent commitments exclusively aimed at guaranteeing Petroperú's operational continuity, including working capital, recomposition of fuel stocks, and necessary inputs for hydrocarbon production.
