Authorities and citizens of La Encañada (Cajamarca) participated in a workshop on mining and sustainable development
The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through the Mining Integration Program, held the Mining Replica Workshop for the San Andrés de Negritos community in the district of La Encañada, Cajamarca region, carrying out a training session for dozens of authorities and community members on aspects of responsible mining and sustainable development.
The event took place on May 22nd and raised awareness among the population and authorities of the peasant community of San Andrés de Negritos through an informative session on mining activity in the country, entities linked to mining, the role and functions of MINEM, the potential of the sector, and the importance of sustainable resource use.
The training was led by specialists from the General Directorate of Mining and the Directorate of Sustainability and Mining Articulation of the MINEM, and included aspects of sustainable development in mining activities, with participatory sessions on soft skills and group dynamics, promoting active learning and immediate feedback.
Approximately 40 people gathered at the community hall of the La Extrema annex, in the San Andrés de Negritos peasant community, to participate in this workshop, which was requested by Jesús Castrejón García, president of the community and former intern of the Mining Integration Program.
It should be noted that the community is located within the direct area of influence of the Yanacocha Sulfuros mining project, an initiative that is expected to generate more than US$1.25 billion in investments and spans the districts of Cajamarca, La Encañada, and Baños del Inca.
It should be noted that the community of San Andrés de Negritos is located in the district of La Encañada, an area of Cajamarca with a long history of mining activity and home to major projects such as Yanacocha Sulfuros, an initiative involving an investment of over US$2.5 billion.
Mining Replicas are requested due to the commitment undertaken by the PIM participants to transmit and share with their community members what they learned during their training.
