Google at the XVI SYMPOSIUM: Artificial intelligence is the global operating system that redefines industrial productivity

The session “Technology and Innovation: A Challenge for the Growth of All Sectors,” held on the final day of the SYMPOSIUM – XVI International Mining Convention, organized by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum, and Energy (SNMPE), began by stating that the adoption of advanced technology and the urgency to design new corporate practices will currently be accompanied by sector uncertainty.

During his keynote address, Google Cloud's Country Manager for Peru and Ecuador, Diego Montoya, emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) has ceased to be an isolated tool and has become the foundational platform that will reconfigure organizational competitiveness. «AI allows for the design of agents to optimize repetitive tasks, but real innovation is not a functional area, but rather the design of new practices that technology helps to materialize. This is a business definition of operations that companies can no longer postpone or delegate to the IT department.».

AI is accelerating changes in the industry, impacting variables such as consumption, retail, and others. It is changing the way we interact with the world, as AI simplifies processes and reduces development times, for example.

Montoya sees enormous potential in traditional extractive and productive industries that need to manage massive data, accelerate internal processes, and increase productivity. In his presentation, he showcased the application of digital twins through hyperconnectivity, a system that projects the complete activity of an open-pit mine or an underground mine to interact with equipment in real-time.

Through a project by the firm TIMining, it showed how an intelligent agent platform analyzes the flow of trucks to crushers, detecting factors such as incomplete loads or downtime to issue early alerts. «This technology extends the operational capabilities of workers. It's not about forensic analysis to review what happened during the shift, but about establishing real-time alerts to take immediate action,» he explained, highlighting that the mining sector has an advantage because almost all of its equipment comes with factory sensors, and the current challenge lies in efficiently connecting that information.

Regarding business transformation, Montoya highlighted the role of «agentic AI» with the deployment of agents capable of autonomously solving complex operational tasks. Google's projections indicate that in the next two years, up to four digital agents could coexist per person within a corporation.

Analyzing the speed of the current technological wave, the executive recalled that adoption timelines projected for this decade unexpectedly accelerated. Along those lines, he pointed out that the best way to predict the future is to create it.
