Senace approves 32 mining projects representing more than US$1.486 trillion in sustainable investments
The mining sector accounted for the largest share of sustainable investments approved by the National Service for Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments (Senace) during the first months of 2026, consolidating itself as the main driver of projects evaluated by the entity.
Between January and the first week of May, Senace granted environmental approval to 32 mining projects, which together represent investments totaling more than US$8.6 billion, out of a total of 69 projects approved across various economic sectors in the country.
According to the financial statement released by the entity, the investments approved during this period exceed US$9.5 billion and are intended to support projects related to economic development, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.
The mining sector widely led the amount of investments made viable by Senace, far above other sectors evaluated during the same period.
The transportation sector ranked second, with 19 projects approved totaling approximately US$1.414 billion, followed by the electricity sector with eight projects valued at approximately US$1.104 billion.
In addition, Senace granted environmental certification to five projects in the agriculture sector, representing US$10 million in sustainable investments.
In the case of the Hydrocarbons sector, the agency approved four projects valued at US$1.454 billion, while a project in the sanitation sector received environmental approval for approximately US$1.424 billion.
The institution also highlighted that since 2024, it has been promoting a new stage of institutional strengthening aimed at optimizing environmental assessment processes through technological tools and digital innovation.
As part of this strategy, Senace incorporated modernization mechanisms supported by artificial intelligence to streamline evaluations, improve predictability, and strengthen transparency in environmental certification processes.
As a result of these measures, in 2025 the entity approved 202 investment proposals totaling more than US$18 billion in sectors of strategic importance to the country.
Currently, Senace has 105 applications under review and expects to exceed US$20 billion in approved sustainable investments this year.
The entity indicated that this progress consolidates its role in the development of strategic projects in Peru, while also maintaining spaces for citizen participation in environmental impact assessment processes.
