Senace approves new operational improvements at Cuajone worth more than US$1.4318 billion

The Cuajone Mining Unit, operated by Southern Peru Copper Corporation in Moquegua, will move forward with a new stage of operational and technological adaptations after the National Service for Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments (Senace) granted approval to the project's Seventh Technical Supplementary Report (ITS).

The approval was made official through Directorate Resolution No. 00071-2026-SENACE-PE/DEAR and will allow modifications to be carried out in various components of the mining operation located in the district of Torata, Mariscal Nieto province.

The package of approved changes includes an estimated investment of over US$318 million, which is intended to streamline processes within the mining unit and strengthen Cuajone’s operational continuity.

Among the main interventions considered in the ITS is the improvement of the filter plant at the Cuajone concentrator, a key infrastructure within the operation's mineral processing.

Likewise, the project includes modifications to section No. 4 of the Suches – Botiflaca fresh water pipeline, in addition to the increase of areas designated for leaching and adaptations to the sewage network corresponding to the mine's operational area.

According to the evaluation conducted by Senace, the proposed modifications will not generate significant negative environmental impacts and include environmental management measures aimed at preventing, controlling, and mitigating potential effects associated with the execution of the works.

The ITS constitutes an environmental management tool used to approve changes, expansions, or technological improvements within investment projects that do not involve significant environmental impacts.

With this approval, Southern Peru will be able to move forward with the implementation of operational improvements within one of the country's main copper units, in a context where the mining industry continues to drive investments associated with process optimization, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
