EXPOCOBRE 2026: Lima Prepares to Host Major Players in the Copper Industry

Lima will be the epicenter of the global mining industry with the hosting of EXPOCOBRE 2026, the III Copper Conference and International Mining Fair, which will take place from April 27th to 29th at the Jockey Exhibition Center. The event will bring together authorities, executives, specialists, and leading companies in a space aimed at promoting sustainable, safe, responsible mining with a strong focus on technological innovation.

Organized by InterMet and Viceversa Consulting, the event will feature a robust program in the Copper Auditorium, with over 15 keynote lectures and more than 10 discussion panels, addressing the main challenges and opportunities in the global copper sector.

First day: projects, innovation, and unlocking copper

The official inauguration will bring together representatives from the Advisory Council, government authorities, embassies, and business chambers, kicking off a high-level technical agenda.

Among the keynote speeches, Oscar Rodríguez, Director of Engineering and New Process Development at Southern Perú Copper Corporation, will present “The Immediate Future of the Tía María Project”; Nelson Trejo, Executive President of Epiroc Americas, with the presentation “Regenerative Mining”; and Osvaldo Bascur, Principal and Consultant Fellow at OSB Digital, who will speak on “The Rise of AI-Powered Digital Twins for Copper Production Maximization.”.

In the panels, the debate on the “Viability of New Copper Projects” will be moderated by Fernando Samanez, representative of Metso, and will feature the participation of Carlos Cotera, from Compañía Minera Antamina; Juan José Herrera, from Minera Colquisiri; Mario Baeza, from Río Indómito; and Fernando Valdez, from Minera Crespo.

Likewise, the panel “Workforce Challenges for the Future of Copper,” moderated by Pamela Antonioli of the Mining Innovation Hub, will bring together Alexander Chacón of Chacón Partners SAC; Jean Louis Falen of Compañía de Minas Buenaventura; and Macarena Vallejo of Metso – APRIMIN.

The political block will include the panel “Former Ministers for Unblocking Copper,” moderated by Oscar Díaz (Viceversa), with the participation of Jaime Gálvez, Jorge Montero, Oscar Vera, and Miguel Inchaustegui, all former ministers linked to the mining-energy sector.

Second day: geopolitics, regulation, and global vision

The second day will incorporate an international outlook with the participation of Loyce Mpangala, Senior Analyst at Blue Project, who will present “Copper Supply in Africa: Trends, Achievements, and Future Prospects,» offering a global perspective on copper supply.

Adding to this is James Wang Chun, Vice President of Operations at Zijin – La Arena, with the conference “Zijin's Copper Outlook in Latin America”; and Rubén Arratia, Director of Base & Precious Metals at Wood Mackenzie, who will analyze “How Geopolitics is Changing the Mining Industry and How Latin America Could Benefit.”.

The panel “New Mining Royalties in the Copper Boom?”, moderated by Ángel Chávez, will bring together Oscar Benavides of Estudio Rodrigo, Evelyn Yauri of Zegarra LLC Abogados, and Patricia Quijano of Teck - Zafranal Project.

In the technical block, José Gonzales, Investment Banker, will present on “Super Copper: Promise, Potential, and Limits of the Electrification Metal.” In turn, the panel on “Water Sustainability of Copper Projects,” moderated by Jorge Soto, will bring together José de Piérola, from UNALM; Darío Oviedo, from Southern Perú; Osvaldo Bascur, from OSB Digital; and Guillermo León, former Sedapal.

In the afternoon session, Juan Carlos Castro, former minister of MINAM and former environmental sector authority, will present “New environmental legislation for copper growth,” followed by Roque Benavides, executive president of Compañía de Minas Buenaventura, with the presentation “Political-institutional framework for copper growth.”.

The program will continue with the panel “New International Standards for Copper Production,” moderated by Henry Luna, with the participation of Manuel Munguía from Southern Peru; Gonzalo Quijandría from Minsur; and Francisco Lécaros from the Latin American Mining Alliance (ALMA).

Likewise, the panel “Regional Copper Governors,” moderated by José Luis Medina, will bring together Jorge Pérez, regional governor of Lambayeque; Roel Sánchez, regional governor of Arequipa; and Koki Noriega, regional governor of Áncash.

Also noteworthy are the presentations by Carlos Escaffi, founder of Relaxiona Internacional, with “Copper Free Trade Zone Chile-Peru: the axis that can redefine global mining power”; Manuel Viera, CEO of MetaProject, with “Mining and the new world order”; and Mayra Figueroa, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru.

Third day: technology, conflicts, and the future of copper

The last day will include a conference by Willy Coronado, TICA Manager of Minera Chinalco, on “Technology Applied to Mine Management,” and a presentation by Karim Batallanos, General Manager of Minera Antapaccay, on “Minera Antapaccay and its Growth Projects.”.

The panel “How to Manage Conflicts in the Copper Sector,” moderated by Elinor López, will bring together Fernando Castillo, an independent consultant; Artemio Pérez, from Antapaccay – Glencore; Magno Quispe, from Anglo American; and Marco Balcázar, from Zijin – La Arena.

Likewise, Aurora Williams, former Minister of Mining of Chile, will present “Global and Regional Challenges of the Mining Industry,” while Rómulo Mucho will speak on “The Next Crisis is Mining: Do We Lead Supply or Manage Scarcity?”.

In the panel “Impact of Renewable Energies on Copper Production Costs,” moderated by Brendan Oviedo, Cecilia Rabitsch from Engie, Edwin Quintanilla from Osinergmin, Daniel Cámac from H2 Perú, and Pedro Gamio from PUCP will participate.

The social approach will be addressed in the panel “Mining Suppliers and Employability and their Role in Territorial Development,” moderated by Mario Huapaya, with María Elena Bernal, from Anden Link; Silvana Huanqui, from the IDB; Fredy Castillejo, from RENASA; and Gaby Julca, from MINEM.

Finally, the “Women of Copper” panel will bring together Adriana Aurazo from Southern Peaks Mining, Dominique Viera from APRIMIN, Aurora Williams, Karen García from Rock Drill, and Silvia Noriega from ApuCorp, prior to the closing and awards ceremony.

Logistics, Forums, and Technical Work

As part of its agenda, the event will feature the presentation of over 150 approved technical papers, which will be exhibited simultaneously in the Mining Technological Innovation Forum, the University Mining Research Forum, the Mining Projects Forum, and the Maintenance Forum. These spaces will bring together research, experiences, and solutions related to the main challenges and opportunities in the sector.

Additionally, this edition will also include the First Conecta 2026 Logistics Meeting, a space aimed at specialists in purchasing, contracts, and logistics, as well as sector suppliers. They will be able to participate in conferences led by experts in mining Supply Chain and procurement management. Representatives from Teck Zafranal, Hudbay Perú, Minera Chinalco Perú, Compañía Minera Buenaventura, Marcobre, Antamina, Volcan Compañía Minera, Minera Bateas, among others, are participating in this space.
