Loreto: MINEM boosts rural electrification project portfolio for S/ 850 million
The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) continues to promote measures to foster the energy development of Loreto, through the strengthening of the regulatory framework and projects that will improve electricity generation capacity and ensure a reliable and continuous service, benefiting thousands of families in the Amazonian region.
During a meeting between the Minister of Energy and Mines, Waldir Ayasta, and the regional governor of Loreto, Jorge Chávez, progress was reviewed on the main initiatives the sector is carrying out to expand access to electricity in rural and remote communities.
Among the short-term actions, the coordinated work carried out by the MINEM to reinforce the electricity generation capacity in Loreto stood out, through the maintenance of power generation equipment and the incorporation of an additional 10 MW of power, which will allow reaching approximately 27 MW available to meet the region's demand.
Ayasta highlighted that Loreto has an important portfolio of rural electrification projects in various stages of development. Along these lines, he reported that this portfolio reaches S/ 850 million in investments, which will drive local development, boost productive activities, and generate new opportunities for families.
Similarly, it was reported that work is underway on the regulation governing the Coordination of Isolated Systems Operations, a norm that will promote new investments in electricity generation and strengthen supply competitiveness.
As part of the long-term vision, the Loreto Electrical Interconnection project is also being promoted. This is a strategic initiative that will permanently integrate the Amazon region into the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN). Currently, the project is under the responsibility of ProInversión for the evaluation of its feasibility and implementation structure.
Minister Ayasta reaffirmed MINEM's commitment to promote modern, sustainable, and scalable electrical infrastructure, and to continue coordinating actions with regional and local authorities to accelerate the implementation of projects that improve the quality of life of the population and strengthen the development of Loreto and the Amazon.
