MINEM and major mining companies agree on measures to advance 65 projects valued at US$63 billion
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Waldir Ayasta Mechán, led a high-level meeting with the CEOs of the main mining companies operating in the country, in an important space to strengthen public-private coordination and consolidate a modern, competitive, and sustainable mining sector that continues to generate development and opportunities for all Peruvians.
He highlighted that Peru has a portfolio of 65 mining projects valued at more than US$63 billion, located in 18 departments across the country, and noted that the country has the opportunity to become a global strategic partner and a key producer of minerals that are critical to the global energy transition.
He pointed out that “if we want to talk about Peru's strategic positioning in the world, we must work as a team,” highlighting the importance of combining efforts between the State, private enterprise, and techno-scientific institutions to strengthen the sector's competitiveness and create conditions that allow for the accelerated implementation of new projects.
This dialogue space allowed for the identification of opportunities to enhance and strengthen the mining value chain, enabling sustainable resource utilization and the consolidation of an innovative, responsible, efficient industry aligned with future challenges.
The holder of the bidding document reaffirmed the State's commitment to generating a trusting environment for investments, promoting legal stability, optimizing processes, and creating favorable conditions that will accelerate the development of projects contributing to the growth of the regions and the country.
Within this framework, it announced the development of a joint roadmap to promote multisectoral actions and strategies aimed at fostering mineral exploration, strengthening investor confidence, and accelerating the incorporation of technology and innovation in the sector.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the country's leading mining companies, who highlighted the openness of this dialogue space and agreed on the importance of strengthening coordination between the public and private sectors.
In this way, MINEM reaffirms its commitment to modern and transformative mining that drives regional development, contributes to closing gaps, and strengthens regional integration, consolidating itself as an engine of growth, development, and well-being for all Peruvians.
