Pasco: AMSAC completed remediation at the Azulmina project, transforming a high-risk area into a safe and sustainable environment.

The state-owned company Activos Mineros SAC (AMSAC) announced the completion of mining environmental remediation works on the Azulmina project, located in the communities of Santa Ana de Tusi and Chango, in the Daniel Alcides Carrión province, Pasco region. This intervention required an investment of approximately S/ 50 million in the construction phase.

AMSAC General Manager Dante Aguilar reported that the work allowed the closure of 68 mining environmental liabilities (PAM) classified as high and very high risk to the health of the population and the environment, primarily located on the banks of the Ranra River.

AMSAC has intervened in various mining-related components, such as mine dumps, open pits, tailings deposits, mine entrances, processing plants, and mining camp infrastructure. The work carried out included the environmental recovery of more than 10 hectares, as well as the implementation of measures to ensure the physical, geochemical, and hydrological stability of the intervened sites.

“The closure of these mining liabilities not only reduces the environmental impact in the area, but also guarantees the sustainability of water resources and local biodiversity, benefiting surrounding communities with a healthier ecosystem,” Aguilar pointed out.

Social impact on the community

On the other hand, Aguilar reported that, as a result of the works carried out by AMSAC, nearly 29,000 people in the districts of Santa Ana de Tusi and Chacayán have been directly and indirectly benefited, thereby boosting the local economy through job creation, product consumption, and service contracting.

“As part of our commitment to the population, we ensure that communities actively participate in the post-closure and maintenance stage of the project, strengthening their capacity for environmental monitoring and care for the surroundings,” he pointed out.

Currently, AMSAC has a portfolio of 65 environmental remediation projects in 11 regions of the country, consolidating its role as a key entity in the recovery of ecosystems impacted by mining activity.
