Mining Assets and Minera Chinalco Sign Agreement to Strengthen Mine Closure and Environmental Management

The state-owned company Mining Assets S.A.C. y Chinalco Mining Peru S.A. They formalized a technical cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening capacities in mine closure, environmental monitoring, and management of mining environmental liabilities.

The agreement establishes a general framework for collaboration that will allow for the exchange of specialized information, technical knowledge, and experiences in technologies applied to the closure of both open-pit and underground operations. It also covers aspects related to the stability and closure of tailings and waste rock facilities, as well as the treatment and management of mine water, with an emphasis on water efficiency and effluent control.

Furthermore, cooperation includes activities related to the post-closure and maintenance of mining components, as well as initiatives aimed at the reuse and repurposing of infrastructure. Within this approach, applied innovation practices, circular economy, and technical solutions for environmental remediation are considered.

The agreement also provides for the development of workshops, seminars, and technical meetings, as well as site visits to facilities, laboratories, and projects of both entities, with the aim of strengthening knowledge transfer and promoting shared technical standards.

The signing ceremony was attended by the General Manager of Activos Mineros, Dante Aguilar Onofre, along with members of his executive team, and from Minera Chinalco Perú, its General Manager and CEO, Wang Xing, as well as representatives from the operational and legal departments.

Subsequently, the Mining Assets team conducted a technical visit to the Integrated Operations Management Center (GIO) at the Toromocho Mining Unit, where they were able to observe the remote management system for the production process implemented by Chinalco.

With this alliance, both entities seek to consolidate a space for technical cooperation that contributes to raising the standards of environmental management in mining in the country and promotes sustainable solutions in the closure and post-closure of operations.
