MINEM boosts the strengthening of the electrical system with more than 424 Km. of new transmission lines

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reported that, in 2025, the electricity sector made significant progress in the area of transmission, with the commissioning of 424.5 kilometers of new transmission lines and substation expansions, thanks to a total investment of US$1.41591 billion, helping to strengthen the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN).

The Deputy Minister of Electricity, Francisco Mendoza, highlighted that these projects allow for accompanying the growth in electricity demand and ensuring a continuous and quality supply.

“The investments executed in electrical transmission during 2025 reinforce the country's energy infrastructure and guarantee a more robust, reliable system that is prepared for the economic and social development of the regions,” he/she/they noted.

Among the projects is Red Eléctrica del Perú’s Expansion No. 21, which entered commercial operation in March 2025 and included the third Chilca circuit – Independencia circuit, with a length of 168.5 km, as well as expansions at the Chilca and Independencia substations, with an investment of US$16 million.

In addition, the 158-kilometer-long 220-kV Pariñas–Nueva Tumbes transmission line began operations in August 2025, requiring an investment of US$50.8 million and strengthening the electricity supply in the northern part of the country. Added to this is the 96-km-long 220-kV La Niña–Piura Nueva transmission line, which began operating in October, with an investment of US$58.5 million.

During the last quarter of the year, the Nueva Tumbes Substation and the 60-kV Nueva Tumbes Transmission Line also became operational – Tumbes transmission line, with an investment of US$8.4 million, as well as the Reinforcement 1 and Reinforcement 2 projects for the Chilca – Marcona – Montalvo line, with combined investments exceeding US$25 million.

It should be noted that, in September, MINEM awarded contracts for four transmission projects under Group 3 of the 2023–2032 Transmission Plan, for US$214 million, which will benefit more than 2.2 million people in the regions of Arequipa, Lima, Apurímac, and Puno.

The MINEM reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting investments in electricity transmission infrastructure as a fundamental pillar for sustainable development, the country's competitiveness, and the well-being of all Peruvians.
