The official visit led by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and five ministers of state, strengthened economic relations between Peru and Japan, generating renewed interest from major Japanese companies in strategic projects for lithium, copper, and green hydrogen.

The delegation, led by the President of the Republic and with the participation of the Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Montero, held meetings in Japan with more than 80 business leaders, aimed at strengthening cooperation and promoting investments in strategic projects within Peru's energy and mining sector.

«Japanese companies have expressed interest in Peruvian mining resources, especially copper, lithium, and critical strategic minerals for the global energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, Montero reported.

The official delegation held high-level meetings at the 16th Peru-Japan Business Council (CEPEJA), Invest Day Peru Japan, and a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and his team of advisors. Furthermore, they participated in Expo Osaka-Kansai 2025, where the Peruvian pavilion showcases investment opportunities in renewable energies, strategic minerals, and bilateral trade.

“Japan has confidence in Peru, in its stable macroeconomic management, inflation under control, growing foreign exchange reserves nearing US$90 billion, and mining exports that will reach US$50 billion this year,” the minister emphasized.

On the other hand, he highlighted the meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan because they delved into the business climate and Japan's interest in investing not only in mining and energy, but also in agriculture, food security, infrastructure, and increasing trade relations.

In light of this, the minister reported that there is a bilateral agenda between both countries, in addition to a Peru-Japan 2024-2033 Roadmap, which includes a working group to monitor various joint actions, such as investment opportunities with annual meetings between businessmen, and the promotion of cooperation with small-scale and artisanal mining, among others.

As part of the agenda, the president formally invited Japanese companies to participate in Perumin 37, which will take place in Arequipa from September 23 to 27. This event is key to consolidating alliances and attracting foreign direct investment in high-impact projects for national development.
