BCR reports a 3.21% increase in mining production for the first quarter of January

The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported that the metal mining sector grew by 3.2% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2025, driven by increased activity in copper and molybdenum mining.

 

In January, copper production rose 7.3% year-over-year due to a base effect and increased ore extraction. Growth in the Las Bambas mines, Green Hill y Quellaveco Respond to the base effect after recording the maintenance in January 2024. Meanwhile, Chinalco and Southern Copper produced a higher volume of ore.

 

Molybdenum production rose 24.0% year-over-year in January due to increased processing of Green Hill y Southern Copper, as well as by the greatest laws of Chinalco.

 

Similarly, silver production increased by 4.5% in the third quarter. This growth is primarily due to Buenaventura (resumption of operations at its Uchucchacua mine and the start of the Yumpag project) as well as by a higher proportion of this mineral in Antamina's copper concentrates.

 

In addition, iron production rose by 3.1% year-over-year in January, driven by Shougang; while Minsur saw a 0.3% increase in Q3 revenue due to tin production.
